The story

Be careful what you wish for.

Sherry’s world is full of family, mischief, close calls, and the kind of imagination that can turn an ordinary day upside down. When a monkey’s tail enters the picture, keeping a secret becomes an adventure all its own.

Warm, funny, and wonderfully unruly, A Tale of a Tail celebrates childhood curiosity, family bonds, and the courage it takes to face the consequences of a wish that came true.

“Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.”— A Tale of a Tail

Behind the story

Written to make Daddy proud.

A Tale of a Tail began as a story shaped by Sherry’s adventurous childhood and the family memories that never stopped feeling alive. First published in 2011, it has now been lovingly rebuilt with a newly illustrated interior for a new generation of readers.

At the heart of the book is the man who taught Sherry to see life as an adventure—her daddy. This edition carries that spirit forward on every page.

“He insisted that life be an adventure.”

Meet the author

Sherry Hutchins

Sherry Hutchins writes from the lively territory where memory and imagination meet. A Tale of a Tail was inspired by an adventurous childhood, a close-knit family, and a daddy who insisted that life itself should be an adventure.

Her stories celebrate family, humor, resilience, and the unforgettable trouble children can find when imagination takes the lead.

Life should be an adventure.
